Peter Smythe graduated from the Texas Tech School of Law in 1993. While at Tech, he served on the law review, clerked at The Rutherford Institute in Charlottesville, Virginia, and graduated with honors. He also served as an associate editor of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy. Peter started out practicing personal-injury law in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. It was trial by fire as he was designated as lead counsel in six-figure cases just two weeks after starting work in a small firm in the Oak Cliff area.
