More than 30 years ago, James T. Leavitt founded the firm that today is known as Leavitt, Yamane & Soldner. His goal has always been to provide the people of Hawaii with skilled, caring and professional legal representation. He has accomplished his goal and looks forward to many more years of service. Leavitt initially came to Hawaii as a U.S. Marine Corps Judge Advocate General (JAG) assigned to the 14th Naval District in Pearl Harbor in 1968. He received his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School in 1966, and he spent two years as a JAG at Camp Pendleton, where he handled court martials, before being reassigned to Hawaii. While stationed in Hawaii, Leavitt began making civilian friends, and as his discharge from military service approached, he was offered a position with the Hawaii Public Defenders Office. He’d grown to love Hawaii and he took the job. He has continued to practice law in the Aloha State for more than 40 years.
