Ed is an experienced litigator and adviser to businesses, individuals, financial institutions, local government and insurance companies in a variety of areas including title insurance law, labor and employment law, as well as commercial and property disputes, workouts and bankruptcy related issues. Ed’s goal with all representation is to provide counsel to avoid disputes or reach a reasonable compromise whenever possible. However, when circumstances require litigation, he finds that thorough preparation lets the adverse party understand the strength and resolve of the client’s position is the best way to achieve resolution by settlement. When litigation was required, Ed has taken both jury and bench trials to conclusion in state, federal and bankruptcy courts, as well as before a wide variety of administrative agencies and arbitrators. When an appeal has been necessary Ed has handled appeals before all courts and agencies where he has practiced. Title Insurance/Bad Faith and Wrongful Denial of Claims: In the title insurance area his representation is limited to business, financial institutions and individuals with claims failing to defend against title insurance companies, including bad faith for wrongful denial of claim, as well as monitoring the scope and progress of any defense provided and helping evaluate the coverage that needs to be purchased to avoid duplication of costs and charges. Labor and Employment Relations/Wage and Hour Law: In the labor and employment area, Ed represents business and local governments in collective bargaining, wages and hour, wrongful termination of fair employment, grievances and disputes. Ed also has the unique background of being a former fair employment investigator as well as wage and hour auditor prior to attending law school. The wage and hour background may prove to be very beneficial for his clients with the changes in federal overtime regulations that will be upon most businesses by early 2016. Commercial and Property Dispute Litigation: In the area of commercial disputes, Ed has long represented financial institutions in foreclosure, workout agreements and bankruptcy related matters, as well as businesses and individuals in commercial and property disputes. Tribal Law: In the area of Tribal Law Ed has represented businesses and municipalities in disputes related to financial issues and gaming. Ed has also represented tribes with regard to financial and gaming issues, as well as water and environmental issues that formed the basis for the successful multi-year challenge to a large mine in northern Wisconsin.
