Licensed in California, New York and New Jersey, Alana has been practicing law with an exclusive focus on criminal defense work, mental health advocacy and civil rights. She attended New York Law School after earning a Bachelor of Arts from UCLA, receiving numerous awards and honors for her academics. Alana Yakovlev is also admitted to the federal courts, U.S. District Courts of New York (Southern and Eastern Districts) and U.S. District Courts of California (Eastern, Northern and Central Districts). Prior to founding Walk Free Law, Alana Yakovlev has served as a trial lawyer for several firms, a legal analyst for Bloomberg, clerked for a New York Supreme Court judge and interned for the District Attorney's office. She has received media attention for her successful results in high profile cases defending members of La Cosa Nostra and other white-collar cases. She was also featured as a legal commentator on various news channels and articles. Alana was chosen for inclusion on the 2013 through 2017 Southern California Rising Stars list, an honor reserved for those lawyers who exhibit excellence in practice. Only 2.5 percent of the attorneys in California are named to the Rising Stars list each year. Alana Yakovlev has also been selected as a member of The National Trial Lawyers- Top 100 Trial lawyers and Top 40 Under 40. As an aggressive trial attorney, her professional experience in working closely with clients incarcerated in state and federal jails has led to spectacular case results. Alana Yakovlev speaks fluent Spanish and Russian and is proficient in Italian and Hebrew. In earlier years, Alana was a competitive gymnast, who could land the perfect triple back flip. She is also an accomplished pianist, who loves performing anything by Chopin, especially Fantaisie in F minor.
